    #14381959 - 05/01/11 10:26 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I need to figure out a way to dry my mushies but i only have a small amount of calcium chloride and Epsom salts. can i mix these together to use as a desiccant?

Why couldn't you? :wtf:

Equally confusing, why would you have to? use two dishes if you're worried.

As I think about this more, I'm not sure that epsom salts will help.
Calcium chloride is incredibly hygroscopic, it might juts rip the water away from the epsom salt.

It would be interesting to put molar-equal dishes in a sealed environment.
Put in a dish of water small enough to be absorbed by either desiccant and let them fight for it.
Then weigh them afterwards and see which one absorbed how much.

But calcium chloride will soak up water until it self-liquefies. "Deliquesce" is the word.
