Experiences with Seaweed
    #1417171 - 03/29/03 05:52 PM (21 years, 5 days ago)

Hi guys. Some friends of mine are feeling adventurous and are wondering about an idea they had. Having recently been introduced to the wide world of poo and casings, etc. they decided that the process could be improved yet. While on a trip to a local garden supply store, they noticed a form of seaweed that is used for gardening and thought "wow, i wonder if we could use this". They decided they would give it a shot.

Seaweed apparently serves 2 main purposes:
-to provide nutrients (agars are derived from seaweed, so why not?)
-to increase soil water retention

does anybody have any suggestions i could pass on to my friends? About seaweed? About how they could use it best? About how it might affect growth of mushrooms?

Thanks alot for your input, my friends really appreciate your support!

geez, yeah.... my friends never even thought of either of those things.
Plus, if there was contam., god forbid, I could imagine it wouldn't smell too great either... but that won't stop them from tryng it and passing on their findings.

Thanks alot bro, I always appreciate people's input and support.

Trace amounts of kelp are good for assisting myc spreading through grains as well as providing many valuable trace elements.I use a tablespoon in enough WBS/Alder for a dozen pints. This works well for every genus/species I've tried it on (10 or so) so far.It helps the alder hold moisture also as it likes to dry up.Good luck.WR

I know that kelp is a type of seaweed, but in this context, are they the same thing? If not, where do i go about buying kelp?
