substitue gypsum for hydrated lime

well on popcorn tek im going to use gypsum but can that be substitued for hydrated lime?

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: Aside from the nutritional benefits Gypsum provides when used as an additive to bulk substrates at 3-5% it also will hold the PH "steady". Whereas hydrated lime is used to raise the PH rather rapidly.

What popcorn tek are you speaking of that calls for hydrated lime? HLime is used in casings, and if you're growing Cubensis you shouldn't need one.

it doesnt call for it. but i read a few posts about hydrated lime.

Gypsum from local no-chain garden shop.
No need for lime really. I've got a bag here I never use.
