Mycelium Growth-Too Slow?
    #1411375 - 03/26/03 10:48 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Hello, all. My pet raven is doing his first grow, and would like some advice on the mycelium he is seeing in his jars.
He tells me that he innoculated his BRF and verm jars on March 13th, and has been keeping them in the dark at around 80 degrees (sometimes as high as 83 or as low as 76). He has five jars, three of which are EQ strain, one is Maz, and one is an EQ/Maz mix. In the EQ jars, he says the mycelium growth areas are only dime to quarter size, same for the Maz jar, and there are about 3 or 4 spots per jar. He says that the mix jar, however, has two areas of mycelium about as big as his head, including the beak. He wants me to ask you guys if this would be considered a retardation of the mycelium growth, and if it is, what it could be caused by and how he can fix it.
*CaaAAWWw* (Thank you in advance)

how are we gonna know whats wrong? are you sure you have proper air exchange, as this is the most dommon problem with slow mycelia growth.

Some of my jars took 2 weeks to show colonization while others had some after 4-5 days.  It seem to be normal.  My fastest 1/2 pint jar was fully colonized after 6 weeks and they are all stored in the dark at a temp of 88-90 F so I'm real far from people who say they get 100% colonized jars after 3-4 weeks...

  Patience is the key.

The air exchange may be a problem. The jars are loosely sealed and the tops are covered with aluminum foil. I'll tell my pet raven to air 'em out and try not to contam them. Thanx!

Are you using BFR cakes??? If so, you should have a dry verm layer on top... if that is also the case, then take the micro pore tape or tin foil off and let the the dry Verm layer do what it was put there to do.... FILTER CONTAM's.

Just my 2 cents.... idk.

I know he said his mycelium growth was slow, but I have a feeling he's resolved his issue by now.
