purple contaminant
    #14082506 - 03/07/11 05:39 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Last friday i made up a batch of BRF cakes, and this morning, 3/5 of them, had a weird purple discolouration right under the injection points.  Those 3 were all th e same strain, the other 2 were different, which haven't been showing any signs yet.  I know im probably going to toss them, ive already isolated them, but ive never had any possible contaminants just growing on the BRF cake.  I'll try to get a pic posted tomorrow, im sure it would help a lot

After a night of thinking about it, the other two started turning purple also, i feel it may be the brand of brown rice i used

i see nobody responded, not trying to bump my own post, but anywho, all 5 jars all had the purple coloring on my brf cakes, and in the past few days, mycelium has started to form, extremely fast for the brazillian ones, ill post pics if anyone wants.

i'll try to do that today, but just to your naked eye, the second picture, after only one week, does the colonization look right?  Ive done this a handful of times, and never have i had one move that fast, i'm assuming its not mycellium, its rather smooth looking.
