Pin transplant
    #1382070 - 03/16/03 06:26 PM (21 years, 8 days ago)

I've got a multispore rice/coir casing of "Amazonian" strain (MushMush's one I think) that has refused to pin for weeks on end, been recased, scratched, flipped, recased again, and still nothing:confused:
SO, taking into account the hormonal theory of flush development, I removed a small pin from a healthy Mex-Cub casing and poked it into a nice fluffy patch of the Amazonian casing. Hopefully this devloping pin will send out a chemical signal to the casing that it's time to fruit already:tongue:
36 hours later the pin still looks healthy, I wonder if the mycelium will sustain it to full growth, even though it is a different strain...

Nice experiment! I'm looking forward to see if it works.

If the pin grows I will be amazed!

I think that it would be better if you blended it and sprayed the solution over the casing. According to Stamets it doesn't have to be even from the same species to help inducing pinning.

yeah I know, but my only fruiting casing only has a few pins on it and I'd rather not throw away a flush on the possibility of creating a new one:)
we'll see.
I'll be quite surprised if the pin grows too, but stranger things have happened....

you'd probably be on a second flush by now if you had just cold shocked for 24-48 when you first put it into fruiting.

like duh!;)
yeah I forgot to say, it has also been cold shocked several times.
the transplanted pin is still looking alive, no sign of aborting, but I don't _think_ it's grown any yet...

the pin still looks alive, but isn't really growing any.
probably the mycelium is providing it with enough water to survive, but no nutrients.
no sign of new pins either, I think I'll just toss this casing, it's a waste of time and space...

I've done something like that before. When I was removing the cake from my myco-bag, mycelium had climbed up the sides and pins were growing. When I put it in a terrarium I ripped off the mycelium with the pins attached and placed it on top of the cake. The mycelium connected and it grew.
