Personally, I move mine to the fruiting chamber as soon as I see several fingers of mic poking into the casing layer.

Doesn't seem necessary to me to cold shock, but that's just me.

try different time intervals
1.casing  when mycelium fist seen  in the valleys
2.casing  try patching
3.casing  sit it more in incubator for 5 days example to understand what is overlay
4.casing dont give so much o2
5 dont use cold shock
6 use cold shock
try to use the same materials for all your casings
write the dates and what you did to not forget which is what

every thing became more quick to understand
and as a general rule not apply all your casing the same process  when you are a newbie

well i was really askin because my buddy made a casing on march 3rd and it still hasnt colonized.......or poked through the top layer....he figured maybe it was cause he didnt sterilize the verm water mix he used to case so he did another today but this time he sterilized the verm\ distilled water mix......he just used 2 cups verm and 100 ml distilled water....enough for a one cake casing in the container hes got.........think maybe because he didnt sterilize is the reason why the first one didnt colonize? he didnt see any kind of contam when he dug through it alittle today so he figured might as well keep it till it contams or colonizes....ah well.....thanx again

I have done many casings with cakes and straight Verm. It works really good. Just be sure to crumble enough cakes
