spring break

My friend is growing 18 cakes of P. cubensis creepers in his closet. They were grown in eight ounce jars and have been birthed onto containers with a bed of vermiculite. The cakes are beginning to fruit and the first fruits were harvested yesterday. The problem is that he is leaving for spring break in 9 days and will not be around to maintain the terrariums for 9 days. What can be done to recieve a decent yield after his return from break? How can he store the cakes so minimal damage is done? The current plan is to clean the cakes of all pins before leaving, upon return he is considering caseing or dunking the cakes.

Put them in your fridge. The cold temps will temprarily slow growth to almost zero.

If they are just starting the first flush now you should be golden. It will take them at least 9 days to produce fruits again, IMO. When you come back you might just be suprised by new fruits!
A concern though would be air exchange, unless you have an automated sytem.

My friend has no mechanism for gas exchange. Is there a way to make one or buy one cheap?
Is refridgerating cakes a common practice? Will it hurt growth after the cakes are warmed again?

My friend has kept cakes in the fridge for up to a month with no ill effects.

a guy i know once had a similar problem so he put the cakes back into their clean jars and placed in the fridge. Upon his return a week later, he dunked them and returned to the terranium. The cakes continued to fruit and have repetitive flushes

Let them fruit again before you leave. If you are leaving in 9 days there is a chance that they will fruit again before you leave. My second flushes almost always start in 3 to 4 days.
When you leave put them in the frig in either jars or Ziplock baggies.
good luck!
