WBS Jars have "milky" something
    #13399659 - 10/28/10 08:51 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

My WBS jars were just prepared from 3days to a week ago and some of them have a milky shade on the moisture on the walls. Another thing is that I haven't even pressure cooked the jars because of how busy i am lately, so even if it is contam, would it be okay to PC then inoculate?

1) bacteria
2) don't prep your grain until you have time to do it correctly
3) the bad jars are bad

Lol, I'm following your guide too.. what a coincidence.

Out of curiousity, why can't I just pressure cook the jars? Wouldn't it kill the bacteria and therefore more dead matter to feed on for the mycelium?

Not me, that's a different guy. I use RR's grain prep method.

it COULD just be chalk/shell/dust, but this is from improper soak.
it could also be bacteria as doc said.
chances are it's bad tho.

I theory, PCing the jars now could work to kill most of that bacteria, but you'd be left with a bit of mess, and then it will be more difficult to spot contamination later.

Better to start with some fresh grain mate.
