Is there any reason you'd recommend against buying a Chrysler Sebring convertible?

I will be getting my student loan soon, and upon looking at a wide variety of cars, Ive noticed a trend with Sebrings - they are relatively cheap at newer years with less miles. Im kind of wondering why these newer cars with low mileage are the same price as older cars with higher mileage in the same area.
Anyone have any opinions or nay-saying about Sebring convertibles?

It's American so I assume it can't really go round corners and the suspension is medieval? Buy Japanese or German.

i have an 01 Chrysler Sebring LXI. It's the 4-door, deluxe model (non-convertible) with a 2.7L engine. Until last week, the car had pretty much worked great (minus a few minor electrical problems) but on my way home from school last week, the engine burnt up. I think the oil pump stopped pumping oil to the engine.
I don't know how common this problem is but it's probably something you should look into.
Otherwise, great car. I really like the LXI - it's comfy, all leather, and has a premium sound system.

A friend of mine had one for a few years. No major mechanical issues, but the top was only a few years old and already looked like a raccoon tried to make a nest in it.

Actually the one I am looking at is an 02 Sebring LXi under 90k miles. Half way considering a convertible as I will be moving the AZ in the new year.
And yeah, changed it to Chrysler in the title, I cannot brain today!

I wouldn't want a convertible in the AZ desert. The sun destroys the top, and it too hot to have the top down.
Personally, I would never consider buying an american vehicle.

Sebrings are frequently ranked as one of the worst cars ever made. Do a Google search, they're notorious for not lasting 100k, that's the reason they're so cheap.
I looked into buying one a while back and was immediately turned off on the idea. You're better off buying an older Honda. Or like the one guy said, a beater car and a bike (motorcycle) is a great combo!

That is what threw me off, my first thought was... uhmm it's a Chrysler. Then everyone kept saying Chevy.
Anyways you might want to look through this 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE Problems & Complaints
I would not buy it, and as someone said you won't want a convertible in the dry desert.

Not saying you're gay, but I've seen a lot of homosexual people drive them. Sounds stereotypical? Yes, but it's kinda true. Get a 4runner dude, one of the older years anywhere from 96-2001. Those trucks run forever, fairly good on gas, and tough as a bull. A friend of mine leased one for a year and never changed the oil on that fucker, still purred like a kitten, but the oil was as dark as outter space. I've heard people getting 300k miles out of it and the engine still runin'. I'm usually not into imports, but these things are like the Cadillacs of imports.

I love my 86' 4runner. Runs a little rough cause it had a hard past life. 230,000 miles and I still trust it to take me out in the boonies.

My brother owned one. Though.. Chevy sebring? I've only heard of Chrysler Sebring?
Anywho.. It was a total shit box. Around 80,000 miles EVERYTHING seemed to go. Soft top roof first. Windows stopped rolling down, car rusted QUICK. The only thing Chrysler was EVER to make that was semi decent was the PT Loser. They are still going strong for some reason.
Parts are EXPENSIVE. So be prepared to pull out the wallet.
Get a Toyota dooder. Don't waste your money

I just read through a lot of reviews, and yeah, those things sound like pieces of shit once they start to go. Reminds me a lot of my first car, the ultimate pile of shit, a Dodge Avenger.
Ive been looking into trucks, but Ive never really been a truck kind of guy, looking more for a big roomy sedan with a smooth ride. Was originally considering getting a Grand Marquis or a Cadillac - guess Ill keep lookin.
This may sound stupid, but Im not looking for a practical car like a rice burn that gets great mpg and will live forever, just an all around nice half way luxury car

I've only ever driven one chrysler that didnt have a catastrophic failure, a rod, head, transmission... always something very serious, the one that didnt take a shit was an SUV with a hemi, I had a v-6 station wagon that had more power. My mom's 440 charger took 4 transmissions in a year, it sat idle for 7 after the last one took a shit

How much are you looking to spend? That should help us narrow it down for ya.
Also what do you want to do with it? More than 2 seats? Decent size trunk? Dead set on a convertible?
