In league game of soccer (or football, for anyone that actually cares about the sport) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a team of 11 was annihilated by lightning. Oddly enough, the other team was completely unhurt, which lead the locals of the eastern Kasai Province to suspect that some sort of witchcraft or wizardry was called upon during the game.

For the record, it was the away team that got the short end of the lightning bolt, and the players from the home team came out completely unharmed in the event.

This wasn’t the first time a soccer game has ended due to lightning killing everybody – it happened the same weekend in Johannesburg (South Africa) where half of the players from both teams (Jomo Cosmos and Moroka Swallows) dropped dead.

Our conclusion: the Gods must not be so crazy about soccer.

I think the video is just supposed to be an example of a lightning strike during a game, rather than a video of the purported smiting.

Those are the same jerseys, so it's either old or pretty bad quality. Considering it's some no name soccer game in the Republic of Congo and the article is from yesterday I'm betting on poor quality. I've seen a video like this before, I think it struck a corner flag and fucked everyone on the field up. Bet that shit feels horrible.
