The Telluride Mushroom Festival comes to the Shroomery! 5

We have been contacted by the staff of the reputable Telluride Mushroom Festival that's been held for 30 years now in Telluride, Colorado, with the request of adding their Festival forum to our community.
The Shroomery admins like this idea a lot, but since we will be welcoming an entire subculture under the already quite diverse Shroomery umbrella, we would like you all to give us feedback on this plan and vote on whether you like this sort of thing.
The Telluride Mushroom Festival is comprised mostly of a mature mushroom-loving crowd; hunters, growers and nibblers of edible and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Remember this festival has been around since 1980, it has quite a history and loyal following.
The Shroomery admins like the idea of Telluride and Shroomery joining forces, and our crowds mingling. In a way, the Tellurites will consider this "their forum" and the Shroomerites will consider Telluride "their festival", all in the spirit of cooperation. We see interesting possibilities for both crowds because of our overlapping interests.
It will probably take the form of an added forum section.
What say ye?
Do you like this idea? Have you been to Telluride and can you tell us something meaningful about your experiences? What's your opinion on this?
.

I saw the film Know Your Mushrooms, and while generally I didn't like the film much at all, it really made the Telluride festival look like a fantastic thing. All those like minded mushroom people in the same place.
It's on my list of things to do to go one year.
I don't think there would be a better forum board for this.

good work guys!!!
this is great news and a very exciting prospect, not only for shroomery having it's "own" festival but simply the added value of pulling in some actual pro's to the boards will give a big bump to this already thriving community!
other benefits will surely follow (like help with updating those servers for example)... more traffic, more sponsors... Ythan will rule supreme the mushroom niche in the internet (like he doesn't already )
some suggestions though, just the top of my head to jump start some conversation about this...
any migratory user will have to go through just the same scale as any newly registered member (as in, they will not have access to parts of the forum that only show up after 3 months or stuff like that)
the influx of shroom lovers will also bring lots of new contributors and it would be worth to spend some energy to educate and incurage them to write for or edit the main site (as well as integrate them into the cultivation and grow log sections)
maybe i'm going too far with this but anyway... lots of potential and it sounds a very healthy thing for the shroomery! hope it all works out ok.

The one thing I could forsee being an issue is the openness of the shroomery to a wide variety of viewpoints and means of expression. As other forums for discussion, online and off, typically have quite active mechanisms to prohibit and remove content on the basis of viewpoint and social norms, there may be a potential for misunderstanding on the part of this new community. Even other members here have at times confused the lack of censorship or viewpoint discrimination with tolerance or sanction of bigoted speech or offensive/obscene content- however defined.
This isn't really something that seems like an issue for the membership, more of an administration matter, but since you've asked, I think it might be desirable to make some proactive effort to explain the culture of the site and soforth with regards to free expression.
I don't know anything about this group of folks, but just a thought that occurred when considering some of the stereotypical viewpoints of folks who may be interested in the festival. Perhaps this is completely unnecessary- just some thoughts.

If we are going through with this, most of us anticipate a few months of bumpy road ahead as the mutual culture shock subsides. The opinion among the staff is mostly that it will be worth the temporary discomfort.
Telluride, the Shroomery, we're both well established entities in our fields and we share much common ground. In addition to that, I think on a personal note it's good for the Movement, it unites two demographics with potential for mutual learning and growth.

We gonna get discount tickets to attend teh festival?
Cuz shit's pretty pricy + travel and lodging...
Sounds good though. More folks probably won't hurt, unless they're feds.

of course but that´s why we´re talking no? (not that i care at all as the chances of me ever actually participating are close to none) there´s always the option that this would go so well that things we can´t expect could happen... collaboration is a powerful tool in the world today! (imagine something like the TEDx events )
just food for thought...

^^^This. History in the making right here.
Think this merger would be a great idea. Like the idea of expanding and evolving the mushroom subculture into a whole from 2 separate established communities. Can see it being rough in the beginning for the admins and mods but for a greater good. Think it would be cool to get Paul Stamets to post here, too. I'll be Shroomery representing 100% of the way 4 life.
I for one support this idea whole heartedly. If there is anything I can do to help in anyway please feel free to contact me anytime.
