Gymnopilus sp.

Habitat: Old log on a mountain
Gills: Distant, orange, free
Stem: Curved, ~1cm thick, appears to be hollow. Pretty fibrous
Cap: Round (would be if it hadn't been growing up against the log, I think), convex, has small scales. Caps were between a little under an inch and ~1.5
Spore print color: Orange
Bruising: Blue
Other information: Unfortunately I was in a hurry when I picked these and had also already put my camera away when I picked the first one and noticed it was bruising. I just picked them and ran
They weren't growing in clusters like I've always seen Gyms, but they were all on the same log.

Got any shots of the gills or stem or blue bruising?

I have a picture which very poorly shows the bruising. I have horrible lighting at the moment, I'll try to use a headlamp from the side. I'll put it up in another post. I'll take one of the gills too.

its hard to capture bluing on gyms. well greening is more like it. but i only found 2 rotting pins in my whole patch that had prominent green/blueing. on my haul that is drying the caps have spots that would only look black on camera but if u look closely u can see its got green hughes to it. i would say you have some gyms but lets get a spore print to be on the safe side. and a ndershot showng the gills alot better.

I took a print (several, in fact), and they are definitively orange.
The bruising isn't all over, just parts of the cap. The stalk has some as well.
I resized the first one as well, I'm not sure why it's not fixing...

That sure looks like blue bruising, but the black tipped scales in the first pic are confusing. Gyms usually throw off a shitload of orange spores everywhere. Are they bitter?

I just put a really small amount of both cap and stipe in my mouth and chewed, wasn't really bitter at all.
The spores are definitely orange.

Curious. Most Gyms are extremely bitter. I think all of the active ones are bitter.

It doesn't make sense for there to be bruising if it's not active though.

They are Gymnopilus, they are staining greenish. Bioassay them, then we'll know.

I have a couple of these, and a couple fresh small elephant cubes... but I'm way too tired to trip tonight. And I think I'm doing a bunch of work tomorrow. What's going on?

Not all Gymnopilus species are bitter. The ones I found in Australia just before leaving were not bitter at all, but definitely active.

gyms are bitter too some people and not bitter to others. by friend and i ate gyms last night. he said they were duper bitter and i mine tasted very bland. i think its a matter of the persons sence of taste.

my gym luteus that were active that i found 4 days ago had blackish staining all around the cap margin as well. gyms bruise green/brown/black and magenta. that is normal for your gyms too do that. you def have a gym species and i say they are 100% active test them out and tell us how u like the trip

I actually have (so far) terrible luck with actives. I made 2g dry tea from wild cubes and no trip. I lost some of the fresh cubes I had today, but still have a couple really shrimpy ones. How potent are your gyms, usually? I have 3 of the small caps and the one big cap.

Yes, I'm aware that not all Gyms are bitter. That's why I said MOST.

I didn't say anything about the bruising in the text you quoted. In fact, I never said they weren't Gyms.

the activity in them is different then a cube in my perspective. they seem to have other alkaloids besides psilicybin and psilocin. it was an odd trip that was more of a body thing than a mind fuck. the only mental thing wasw that everytihn was so funny and i was amazed by the plants in the woods, almost as if they had a life like aspect to them. as for doesing its much larger then eating cubes. i had to eat alot, and i dont have a scale. id say i aTE about 6 medium mushrooms. each being 5 inches big. i heard making a tea is alot less painfull lol. but they need to be dried.
