another boring mushroom ID request
    #13245670 - 09/25/10 04:24 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat:
Growing along side a cow's path through a wooded portion of a cow pasture. Growing in an old pile of cow poo.  Oregon

Gills:
grey mottled , attached (some left on stem when separated).

Stem:
6.5-10cm in length, 2mm in diameter, reddish brown (dried to red mahogany),  thin and not flexible. "Pruinose" at first, wiping away to show a reddish stem.

Cap:
2.2 cm in diameter, washed out grey/dried straw brown?, conical. "frilly" white veil fragments.

Spore print color:
Black.  Picture show spores on the cap of one example.

Bruising:
none

Other information:

Panaeolus papilionaceus or panaeolus campanulatus are my guesses.

Same same. They are synonymous. Panaeolus papilionaceus is the correct species name. P. campanulatus is outdated.

I enjoy looking at spore prints.
Your spore prints are nice and neat looking.

I love when mushrooms make perfect prints!:pipesmoke:

Well thanks, I place a drop of water on the caps and then put a glass over them.

ahhh, I'll have to try that, because a lot of times I'll try to print a mushroom and I'll either have no print or a very faint print.

Is this a common practice that will make a difference in the print quality or just something you've always done?
