Myceilium of shiitaki 75
    #13229891 - 09/22/10 01:36 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi Everyone,
I recently got a plate from a member here of Shiitaki strain 75, the plate was broken in transit but still most of it looked good, I have placed some of it in on PDA 36 hours ago and just now saw that there is some very thin myceilium floating in the plate, is that how it looks or I have some air borne contamination that I need to isolate.
Thanks for the inputs will  post some pictures later.
Cheers:)
Vishal.

Shiitake mycelium is thin, but should be on the agar, not 'floating'.

Thanks for the reply RR actually it was very thin and wispy, it finally gave up and showed it was kind of contamination. Seems it was kind of air borne contamination which entered when I opened the cover, plates were already broken.
Can anyone suggest if I can revive it back or not?? The rest of plates is also getting some trich on it now.
Vishal.

You can always try to transfer it and clean it up.

Whats the worst that can happen?

I have some extra Shiitake 75 plates in my fridge right now.

I dont have the money for postage for another week or two, but  could send one your way if you need it.

Hi,
Actually the thing is completely contaminated, it shows some thin myceilium within hours of inoculation and within next few hours whole plate turns green.

That's a sure sign of mold.  Toss it all out and look for a good culture.  You can always order one from aloha medicinals.
