I came here to make this exact thread.

I want to delete one or two of my uploaded pics just to save space, but I can't.

removing all incriminating pics could take a while. also with not to much difficulty, if one wanted he could view all the pics of a certain user. also if someone hits the picture limit and wants to upload new pics but cant, he shoudl be able to delete the previous pics inorder to upload new ones. about the broken links everywhere, im sure pics would only get deleted from posts that we no longer new so a broken link wouldnt be a big problem cuz few would see it

You dont get the point.
Pictures cant and wont be deleted directly by the user for server security reasons among others.
If you want, you can edit the pictures out of your posts.

if its a good server they arent related. thats how you can delete your pics on any upload site such as geocities with no security issues

while i am not trying to get involved in this I must point out that deleting a PM would be just as much of a server security issue as deleting a pic. 3D says it's because we don't want broken links everywhere. that is a far more understandable reasoning than "server security". that sounds like BS.

Look....
Geocities has dozens of programers which assure that the scrripts they have are as secure as possible...

With the server as shroomery, with 1-2 programers, there is no way to ensure that a script where the user gains write access over the system(namely DELETING files on the server) is REALLY so perfect that a user with knowledge can?t modify it so it can delete also other files.

This happened and happens over and over with many scripts( http://gallery.sourceforge.net/ comes to my mind, check their changelog and history) .

So why take the risk?

well, i didn't want to get involved but I guess i did when i posted. it doesn't matter. i know this. i really don't care. i just don't like being fed BS. i didn't bring up geocities. please leave geocities out of this when replying to me. my point, which you avoided, is that you DO give me rights to delete a PM. please explain to me how that is more secure than giving me the right to delete a picture I posted. seems to me one's PM's can be treated in the same manner as one's pictures. again, it's not my server and I really don't care, just don't expect me to immediately accept this answer when it A) does not address my point but, rather, someone else's and B) there is ample evidence that it CAN be implemented.

I will have give you the same answer as before, as you obviously didn?t read it properly.

Of COURSE it CAN be done, but we don?t want to take the risk that it?s not done properly and we thus set the server security in danger.

>which you avoided, is that you DO give me rights to delete a PM

The done by the board software, something we have BOUGT and something which is worked and developed on by dozens of developers. Thus we assume it?s as secure as possible with the current technology.

We would never assume this from a script we?d write in a day or 2.

if your telling me that PM deletion is a feature of UBB and picture deletion is not then I understand. seems UBB has a lot of growing up to do. on the other hand, if you have access to UBB's source (lemme guess it is not GPL, bah) then you'd be able to replicate the PM deletion "script" for deleting pics. really, I have no idea what UBB gives you for your disposal.

That?s what I?m telling you, yes.
The whole picture upload we use here is not a feature of UBB.

THis woudn?t work the same way.

The PM is deleted from the database, while the pictures would have to be deleted from the harddisk.
