I am too critical. How do these look?

I decided to make my mom a table for her new house, so I made her the oak table.
A lady saw it and asked if I could build her a dresser and I was poor so I said yes (never having made a dresser before). I made her the checkerboard looking tall dresser.
Then my brother wanted a coffee table with a hidden drawer for his "goods", so I made him the pine coffee table.
Then my sister in law saw caught wind and wanted a gossip bench... So I made that.
I have no idea what I am doing, but built them all so they will NEVER fall apart.
I am now thinking about going into the custom furniture business, but wanted some feedback on how these things look. I am just to critical of my own work, and was wanting the opinions of someone else.
Thank you.

Uh...
those are real good, I think, heh. I'm not a professional, but my grandfather built custom furniture for the entire time I've been alive and your shit looks comparable at first glance... maybe not, hard to tell when not in person...
Did you use any sort of templates or guides? How can you do something like that without knowing what you're doing? lol... you're obviously selling yourself short if you don't think you know what you're doing but end up with finished furniture that is sturdy.
How long have you been building with wood?

Well shit. Thank you, man. Yeah, it is hard to know what they are really like without touching them.
The lady with the dresser had a picture (from american signature furniture, I think) of what she wanted, but the rest I just went from scratch.
Ummm...how long? Since I started that oak table.

I didn't take any pictures because I wasn't really taking it very seriously when I made it, but he still has the table so I am going to get a picture next time I go over there.

Well then you're doing very well.
So you had never picked up a skill saw prior to cutting the shapes used in the oak table? :P Carpentry or construction experience? Heh. There's got to be SOMETHING more to this story :P

I think those look amazing. I've built/modified a lot of the junk in my place, and it looks like crap compared to yours.

Well yeah, to cut a 2x4 or something, but nothing serious. Just maybe to replace a board on a deck or cut a board so it wasn't too big to fit in my burn pile... but I had never used a table saw, or a router, or a chisel, or a biscuit joiner, or stained anything, or put legs or handles on anything, or put polyurethane on anything, or cut any type of joints whatsoever. I'm telling you, man, I just decided I wanted to make my mom a table and the rest is history.
I also made the cusion on the bench and I had never sewn anything more than a patch on my uniform.

You have a skill. You should seriously consider doing this as a full time job. Nature ability is very rare when it comes to woodworking.

yea, some folk can just see how its all goes together and have it made in their minds eye before they cut a single piece of timber.

Definitely some awesome work man. I would love to be able to make a coffee table like that one you made for your bro. Ikea ain't got shit on your furniture, that is for sure.
How much did it cost you to make that coffee table? and did you just use tools you had layin around the house or what?
Again, it all looks great... We need a coffee table TEK

I have no issue believing it, many great woodworkers/cabinet makers started just the same, bought tools and built a project and just didnt stop making... I got sick of seeing overpriced furniture made from particle board, a stupid looking red lacquered TV stand with a couple of glass shelves for $3000 kinda shit, I started asking the sales people about construction materials and resorted to flipping furniture over, picking off little pieces here and there and even standing or jumping on some of it, I mean if they're asking $5k for a sofa it better last me a lifetime
anyway I bought a table saw and a few hand tools and started putting together a shop, I built my household furniture, over about 3 years
and now for a critique of that crap you posted... pretty damn nice work, under the top of that dresser I noticed the knob, I assume that's a drawer, with a few miters that could have been a completely flawless hidden drawer as well... in fact it gave me an idea for something I want to try with a dresser, pressure panels on the side, a spot for jewelry or something, only needs to be an inch or so deep
my only criticism really is on the gossip bench, the drawers should have had dovetails, other than that it's fine craftsmanship, well executed designs, good joinery, it shows with the pegs in the side of the bench holding various components together, the rabbited and dadoed seat and the panels you're using internally for stiffening
learn to make dove tails if you dont already know, check out new techniques like inlaid dovetails, put to gether a few small pieces for learning on like a hall table that incorporates a hidden drawer in the skirt and put it on the market for a couple grand, something like the dresser could fetch around $3k-$5k
for inlaid dovetails and stuff, small object in woods with really nice figure can pull a couple of grans as well, a moderate sized table top humidor
something like this could get several hundred
things like raw edge/flitch built furniture can also pay handsomely

Love these! Very nice work. I used to know a guy who made furniture, and got paid about 500k a year just coming up with new idea's for Ikea. Good business, especially if you really enjoy it!

Looks great, work on more intricate router work. The edges otherwise look great and everything looks symetric. Keep refining the trade.
