The perfect mushroom: Macrolepiota procera?

I found the perfect mushroom today and I believe it was a Macrolepiota procera. If that is what it was, it's edible and the only thing that could make it more perfect would be if it smelled like Lepista irina.
The photos I took are shamefully bad.
Habitat Growing on the ground in grass in the woods. They were a few feet away from a trail near a fence at the edge of the woods. There is a zoo on the other side of the fence. I saw five of these. Three were growing near one another, a few feet apart. The fourth was growing about 5 feet away back along the trail and the last was about 15 feet ahead.
Gills pores/gills: Gills. The last couple millimeters where they attached to the cap edge were wrinkled. color: Off-white. attachment: Free.
Stem length: 7-8” diameter: ~1 cm color: White base with brown specks. There were more specks towards the bottom, fading to a very fine, light brown shading at the top. texture: Slightly soft but not nearly as soft as the cap hollow/solid: Hollow There was also a very soft ring around the stem. The ring had a bold white circle where it was closest to the stem. I didn’t try to move the ring but it looked like I could have. The ring was white on the top and brown on the bottom and looked and felt like very soft leather. The dots were not in concentric circles.
Cap diameter: ~3 1/2” color: White base with some brown shading towards the top. Large veil patch in the center with smaller veil pieces scattered on the rest of the cap. texture: Amazingly soft shape: Round convex/concave: Convex
Spore print I did not bring one of these home or take a spore print. They were so beautiful that I felt like it would be wrong to put one into the cardboard box I had with me.
Bruising I didn’t notice any bruising but I was very careful with touching this mushroom. It was just so lovely that I didn’t want to damage it. (Yes, I know this is ridiculous because it will be eaten by bugs within a few days anyway.)

God I hope so. I have classes all day tomorrow but I will wake up early to go save these apparently delicious mushrooms from the bugs if they are!

Macrolepiota procera
They are nearly impossible to miss-ID once you make yourself familiar with it. Really, the only mushrooms that one could possibly confuse them with are Chlorophyllum, but they are usually at least twice to three times the size of any Chlorophyllum. And they have a very distinct and typical greyish-brown scaly texture on the stems as can be seen in your image no.3. Once the cap has opened the fluffy annulus is free and you can actually slide it up and down the stem. You don't eat the stem. The cap is best battered and fried.

Nice mushrooms. There's loads of them near me.
This one was huge and it wasn't even fully grown. Guess I should start collecting some of these.

Sadly, I just found out that there is a pretty huge municipal dump IN the park and I'm not so sure eating something from there would be a great idea. The dump is kind of far away, though, about 2 miles. I'm going to make another post to ask about safe distances for eating.

What do you batter them with? I don't really fry anything except latkes and those aren't battered.

I'm totally taking shots in the dark here. But I'm for cereal it's an agaricus, and related to augustus. The ones I pick here are never shaped like that when I pick them, and always flat. Not that color, either. Usually brownish scales, and I eat them every time I find one. Usually for a late-night snack, whole cap fried on butter. Omit this and the rest I said. Hangovers suck.

And again, I'm no mycoexpert. I *think* it's augustus, and edible. And smells of almonds or something yummy like it. And it tastes better than button mushrooms by at least 180%. Wrong post on augustus and stuff. Sorry. Hangovers suck=P

I'd be sorely dissapointed if a mushroom that looks like a toasted marshmellow wasn't edible
