Don't know about you, but the sound of the double bass, mando, banjo and acoustic guitar strikes a feeling into my soul like nothing else. The mandolin is my favorite instrument of all time. When I first started taking music seriously I was all about progressive stuff from the early-mid seventies, and still am, but the past couple years bluegrass has been at the top of the list.

Some of my favorites have to be John Hartford, New Grass Revival, Darol Anger, Yonder Mountain, Kruger Brothers, Crooked Still, Punch Brothers, IRON HORSE (Pickin' on Modest Mouse :drooling:)
But only a novice in terms of old time, original bluegrass. I could never get past the tenor vocals, also the relatively common christian themes which is less of a problem, but damn they could really jam like hell. Ricky Skaggs is a good more recent example, great musician, terribly annoying vocalist. Earl Scruggs, Flatt, Doc Watson and older stuff like Dock Boggs kick ass. I would like to get some recommendations for instrumental bluegrass of those days, song names if you know your stuff, and other bands of course.

Strummin' With the Devil.  If you don't have it, get it.  It's a tribute CD to Van Halen.  David Lee Roth is on it too.

That CD made me believe Van Halen was made for blue grass.  Sooo good.
