Just got a ticket for driving with no insurance
    #12970266 - 07/29/10 02:17 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Short backstory, bought a car a couple days ago and the tabs were expired, so I know I shouldnt have even been driving, but I didn't even think about it.

I have car insurance through my aunt, since its much cheaper and I thought she had switched over the insurance today. Turns out she didn't get around to it, i got pulled over for expired tabs, and ticketed for no insurance. I know a buddy of mine got his liscense revoked for the same shit about a year or so ago, not sure of teh circumstances.

My question is what am I looking at here? Just a fine or revocation or something? I live in MN.

Kinda concerned since school starts again soon and I live 15 miles away.

Minnesota, just edited the first post. Forgot to add that. Fines would suck, but im more worried about not being able to drive. If so I would either have to say fuck college or quit my job and find a place in town, and that wouldn't be enjoyable.

Gutted.  I just got insured for the first time in over a year....then again, where I'm from car insurance is optional you don't have to have it.

I really don't know but I recall my friend getting a ticket for no insurance earlier this year. He just got it and showed up at traffic court like "Whoops, sorry. I'm insured now" and they dropped it.

It is highly doubtful they would take your license.

Do you have any other past driving related infractions?

Maybe just for a DWI offense and then you would have to serve probation and take alcohol classes or just sit that shit out in jail

Exactly my thoughts on the matter, could have been alot worse. I was genuinly surprised he just let me drive off, half expected to be arrested and have my ride impounded.

So far :feelsgoodman:

All i have for priors would be a couple tickets for speeding, and another one for driving with expired tabs, lol. History tends to repeat itself. Gotta stop forgetting about that shit.

I live in MN too, and I know somebody who got pulled over for not having insurance on his car, But its legal to drive without insurance if its within so many days of purchasing the car.

I think its something like 15 days, and if you got pulled over within that time you bought your car you need to get a reicept and prove when exactly you bought it and it will get dropped.
I'm not 100% sure about this though. Good luck.

Cool, thanks. I'll look into that. Should be a date on the title, and if not the DMV will have it on file pretty quickly I would think. Should be all good. And the tabs thing I should just be able to get that dropped after I buy new ones in the morning.

if your name is on the policy it may cover you no matter what vehicle you
drive, that may get you out of the ticket especially since you bought the
car a couple of days ago and 'you're still waiting on the card in the mail'

that's complete bullshit, you cant drive the car unless it's insured,
there's never been a state with mandatory insurance that has ever had a
grace period for insurance, that applies to the tag and it varries from
state to state, some it's 14 and extends to 30

you might be surprised at how many people believe that they can drive
without insurance for some period of time because they just bought the
car. laws are usually pretty clear that you must be insured before you
drive it from where ever you bought it
