POPPY ID
    #12860736 - 07/07/10 06:41 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

So I was over at a friends and he was cleaing out the very back of his garden which is badly overgrown and we came accross a load of poppy plants. He was going to hack them all down but said I could take them.

SI dug them up and transplanted to my garden. The will most likly not survive this but hey, they were doomed otherwise.

Can Anyone ID?

I dont really car if they are active or not, Ill grow some next year if I get seeds from these pods.

i think all poppies have opiate alkaloids in them, but the papaver somniferum variety has way more.

yes they'll likely not survive the transplant, poppies hate being transplanted.
good find though!!

the later pics have my Giganteum on them. Its the fluffy red one and the first 9 pics that are or interest, little ones in comparison.

Hope they survive!!not much hope but hope nonetheless.

How long before these are ripe seed-wise? is it only when they open by themselves that theyre ready?

Yes, once they're tops (Crowns) open up they're good to be harvested. Because they're seeds are starting to shake out on they're own...its means they're all done.
