Case patching"pics included"
    #1280867 - 02/05/03 06:46 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Just a question for all, This is what my casing looked like yesterday. Should I patch to get an even layering? I mixed about 2 pints of colonized cakes with equal amount of peat mix of my own and then light layer of mix on top, but it is really popping out in places, any help would be appreciated, oh yeah for more pics on the same box check my grow log.
Thanks!!

I would patch it, let it goo a few more days in incubation then move it into fruiting conditions.  Looking good, keep it up.

Yes but the point of patching is to have a more even pinset. It will take that extra amount of time for pins (if they do) to form there. It also really depends on your casing layer too.

i'm of the opinion that adding more casing means more colonization needs to be done which means mycellium spends time and energy colonizing instead of producing fruit. i'm not sure why an even pin set is desirable except for the fact that it looks nice and makes for a nice full flush harvest, neither thing which i care about.

i want the most fruit the fastest i can get it. i get pins about 5 days after birthing when i birth early. others get pins 5 days after birthing but after they have patched and gone back into incubation for several days. i get fruits first and potentially more of them because i birth earlier and don't force the mycelium to colonize more casing material.

plus i believe that birthing earlier reduces the likelihood of overlay.

i guess allowing the casing to become more evenly colonized may help prevent contams also, but i never have contams with 50/50+.

this is all my opinion. i've been wrong before. maybe i'm just lucky doing things the way i do. whatever works and makes you happy!

I am of the same mindset. I began fruiting a thai casing that only covered about half of the casing 4 days ago , and now I have pins all over that part and the rest is covered with myc.
