Which model board? I've had an Asrock board in the past, it was a decent board. It never died or failed on me. Think it was a Pentium 4 from 2004/5.

It really depends on the chipset it uses.

Mainboards don't suck anymore, as a rule. Back in the old days, mainboard design and firmware development could be crappy, but with all the nifty reference designs that aid mainboard manufacturers with preventing implementation issues, really big problems are a thing of the past. Regerding ASRock, I remember when that brand hit the market here in Europe some 8 years ago. They were distributed along the same channels as AOpen mainboard and I believe they are indeed made by the same company. I've never heard bad stuff about ASRock specifically, other than people being weary of the brand because of the low price level of their products. They shouldn't be any worse than the other cheap brands. Which means that you should get good value, basically.
