Re-sterilizing rye grain jar?
    #12746324 - 06/15/10 11:20 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Hey folks,

Is it ok to re-sterilize a grain jar?  After opening my PC today as I was tightening the lids with the foil on, one of the rings on one on my rye jars popped off.  I believe that the actual lid lifted also.  Is it reasonable to re-sterilize without messing up the water content?  I have the jar marked, so I could just inoculate and see if it makes it or not.  The room was very clean when the ring popped off. I Ousted the entire area.

Thanks

The grains have a hard enough time being sterilized once. The second time would cook the shit out of it. Just scrap it man. Who cares?

It's just an one jar. Just try to inoculate it and mark it or just throw it away.

Alright.  Sounds like a plan.  The jar is marked and all.  I think I will inoculate it and see if the Oust did what is it supposed to.

i have three 1 quart jars currently colonizing, for reasons i wont detail i pressure cooked them upwards of three times, and they are still colonizing fine.

i would re sterilize it and inoculate it.

I was planning on 16 quarts of spawn for my 105 quart mono.  If I end up with 15, it won't be an issue.  I am shooting for a 1:2 spawn to substrate ratio, which is pretty large for such a massive mono bulk tub.

It is 32.125” x 19.125” x 16".  Yes.  It is quite large.  Should be fun though.
