dried out colonizing jar?
    #1274092 - 02/03/03 10:24 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Well, my first run for PF-Tek 1/2 pints is going pretty well.
Just over 2 weeks after inoculation and 9/11 of the jars are between 10-50% colonized. Been keeping it between 78 deg F and 82 deg F.

However, one of the jars that's about 40% colonized looks pretty dried out - to the point that the verm/BRF looks like it pulled away from the sides of the jar and the top layer of verm has fallen down the sides somewhat. I guessed that it ws drying out some since it sounds like what happens when casing dries out.
Is there a practical way to re-hydrate this jar at this point? Perhaps injecting sterile water and/or with a little hydrogen peroxide?

Thanks!

good job, doing well

don't worry about that jar until it really stops growing. then you can consider slightly undoing the top, turning upside down, or even (riskier) squirting in pure sterile water.

good luck, and let us know

Let if fully colonize... then dunk it on it's birthday. If it starts colonizing really slow, you can inject a little distilled water in and that might help.. but don't do it unless neccessary.
