I just got back from phukkin wally world...AGAIN! I saw some Wbs But it all has some shit called bird kote on it. This sounds like its a chemical deterrant of some sort. Will this bird seed work?

I think I read that it causes the seed to clump following sterilization.

soak for 24 hours and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse till you see clear water but i mean really scrub that shit. I dont care how many times you think its clean just keep mixing it with water till its no longer brown water.

My strainer has too big of holes in it(itys plastic). I recently lost my job so I cant buy a metal one. I have a expensive ass setup and all these little ghetto things that I made when I got fired...Shit

I think you are talking about Penningtons Wild Bird Seed. I have used the seed with and without the Bird-kote washed off. It does not seem to make a noticable difference in growth. My advice, get a big pot. Add one jar of bird seed for every three jars you want to end up with. Fill pot up with tap water until seed is covered 2-3". Scoop off floaters with a big slotted spoon. Place no stove and crank up the heat. Stir seed untillwater begins to boil. Reduce heat to lowest setting for one hour. Shut of heat and let stand for at least one more hour. Take a collander or other strainer, large enough to hold all your seed, and line it with a dishtowle (I use polyfill batting). Pour the seed out of the pot and rinse if you want. Let stand for Min. one hour. Pour the seed back into the now dry pot and stir around to get some of the wetter bottom seeds mixed in well. Load into your jars, put on your lids and get ready to PC. No additional water is needed.
I have had very good luck doing it this way and have not lost a jar to contams in a long time.

bad news; bird kote is fungicide . 
good news; it is a powder, that can be rinsed off .if you rinse well before it soaks in, it will work fine .
i think waggners doesn't have bird kote .or shop around for cheapest brand you can find .i buy mine at safeway .

Like others said, you can wash it off... use dishwashing soap at first and get it all sudsy.. then rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse like that guy said. It will all wash off.

It is most definitly not a fungicide. I use finch feed all the time with bird coat, I see no difference at all. Rinse if you like, but i don't. This whole thing is some kind of urban legend, I swear you will be ok if you pressure cook.

I have used WBS with bird kote. Worked fine for me and I didn't even rinse it.

Yeh, it'll work great. You can simmer it for about 30 minutes then rinse through a strainer for around 15 minutes. That should get rid of most of it but you can use it straight from the bag with equal results. Just make sure to shake the jars after you pc them right when they're hot. If you let them cool down, they will become rock hard and then you will be unable to shake them after they show signs of colonization which is the point in using grains after all. Good luck.
