An Agaricus? (pics)

At first glance, I thought these were amanita ocreata or virosa. However they do not have a saclike volva. Spore print was white which rules out agaricus xanthodermus. They were found in the northeast in a cow pasture several months ago. What do you think?

They look like lepiotas. Possibly Lepiota naucina. Agaricus species usually have pinkish to brown gills and brown spores if I'm not mistaken.

I see the others here beat me to it. Those look like Leucoagaricus naucinus.

Note that on the page viscid linked to, they mention that while this species is edible it is not recommended because it is easy to make an identification error relative to the white (deadly) Amanitas. In the first of your 2 photos the dirt on the base of the stem almost looks like it could be adhering to a bit of volva. But I can't see it in enough detail to be sure of whether it is or not. For that reason I would strongly recommend that you not eat them or allow anybody else to eat them, unless an expert looked at them in person and verified they were OK.

Also, even though they are listed as edible, David Arora mentions that he made some soup out of them one time and had a friend become so sick that he became a former friend. So even if you become 100% sure they are Leucoagaricus naucinus you probably shouldn't eat them.

Finally, you asked in your thread title if they were Agaricus. Agaricus would appear very similar, but the spore print would be chocolate brown. Leuco means pale in Latin, so the name Leucoagaricus suggests that they should look like a pale Agaricus, which they do.

A nice find.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks. I wouldn't worry about eating them, becuase I won't see them again till next year. I threw them back into the woods. Next year tho, yikes, there's going to be tons of them because the farmer just dumped a huge pile of shit right where I found them.

also, in general it is wise to avoid veiled white mushrooms with white gills. i've been into mushroom hunting for some time now and i don't trust them.

Glad everyone sorted out your mushroom.
Here is a field Agaric in NSW Australia.
I first thought your find was lepiota?
