damaged flow hood ...
    #12672354 - 06/02/10 01:16 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

The front part of my flow hood, with the little metal waves, has gotten beat up. I tried to gently straighten them, but they're not perfect. Is it fucked?

it's funny how it doesn't look so bad in the picture. I guess it's not too beat up. Some of the little wave thingies got mangled.

So ... does anyone know what role the metal pattern front of the filter really plays? It must be to keep the air flowing uniformly, yes? I guess I'm posting here cause I'm bummed it got dinged. Time will tell if it matters I suppose.

i would imagine it would cause eddies to form in the flow,
but as the air around it is sterile too,
i think its ok.

Alittle but doesn't really matter as long as u tried to fix it.  I built my flowhood and like 4 days later my son accidentally bumped into the filter and bent a good portion of the metal but I took my time and tried to fix it as best as possible and still use it to this day.

Mine looks a whole lot worse than yours.  You can't help but to bump them occasionally, and since the aluminum is so thin, it bends easily.  Just do the best you can to fix it as you go along and you'll be fine.

My 24 X 48 flowhood

Has a screen over the front.

Years back had one with aluminum fins.
Those get bumped & distorted.
Just straighten them out & go with it.

Little off topic: Myco.Alchemist, why does your PC have two toggle valves?
Mine has the gauge, a rubber safety, and a toggle valve.

Yup, it's SWEET.

I started with a 12X24, then upgraded to a 24x24.
Then upgraded to a 24x48.

Nice to have more working area in front of it.
