are they both internal and in the same computer?
if they'er in different computers, i would take the hard drive that you plan on moving the music TO, and hooking it up in the computer with music ON it, and setting the jumper pin to slave, then booting up the computer should mount the drive automatically if you're in windows, and you can just drag and drop, be sure to set the jumper pin back to what it originally was (master; if it's the only HD in the computer; master w/ slave present; if it's the main HD with a backup HD; slave; if it's the secondary HD; or cable select; if you just plug it in and go)

how much music is it? a 4gb thumb drive isn't that expensive around here, maybe 20 bucks, and you can fit a lot of music on a 4g thumb drive.
external hard drives are a good thing to have, but if you don't have one and don't think you need one they're just another expense.

setup file sharing.
plug both machines into the router with a cable (makes transfers faster).
copy and paste.
or you could just use an external if you know how to get the hdd out of the old one...

Firewire. Hook up the old computer to the new one via a firewire cable. Boot the iMac and hold down T during boot. The iMac should mount as a hard drive on the new one. Transfer, done.

40 to 60 gigs going from laptop to laptop
i would probably try and get hacky, make or buy a crossover cable, and then connect the old imac to the new one and just transfer over
but if you're not up for that, an external hard drive is going to be your best bet.
in fact, my friend just got a 1TB external hard drive for really cheap
in fact, here's a 1TB 7200 rpm mac external hard drive for 108 bucks
108 bucks might seem like a lot but 1TB is 1 thousand GB, roughly.
then you could leave the 40-60 GB of music on your external hard drive and never have to worry about transferring it again :P

A 'mac' external HDD? So you mean a regular HDD that's overpriced just because it says mac? That sounds like a waste of money.

He meant buying an enclosure for the old drive.

external enclosures cost $20. he could pull the drive out and put it in there.
maybe i wasnt clear enough on that..

I guarantee for someone who doesn't sound like they know what they're doing, buying a cheap firewire cable (NOT at Future Shop or Best Buy, cause they charge out the asshole) is the easiest way to do this.

true. very easy.
however, if you still want to use the old hdd for extra storage the enclosure might not be too bad.
