Sample #1:
Habitat: Growing out of mulch. Growing alone about 4 feet away from sample 2 and friend.
Gills: Dull grey gills that are attached and don't hang lower than the margin of the cap. Stained dark with spores.
Stem: 4 cm in height. White at the top where the stem meets the cap, becoming tan closer to the soil. Hollow. Feels smooth
Cap: 2 and 1/2 cm older Ovate mushroom. That has become a light dull brown from the sun. Cap feels smooth.
Spore Print: In progress. I will post once it is printed
Location: Picked in Southeastern USA
Bruising: No color change was observed.
Fragile stem and cap, that breaks easily when handled.
---------
Sample #2 and friend:
Habitat: Found growing in mulch about 4 feet away from sample #1. Growing standing alone next to a young mushroom.
Gills: Dull gray attached gills that don't hang lower than the margin of the cap.
Stem: 4 cm. White where it is attached to the cap becoming light brown closer to the soil. Feels Smooth
Cap: 2 cm in diameter. Golden light brown, smooth Ovate mushroom.
Spore print: In progress. I will reply with the print color once it has been long enough for a print.
Location: Picked in Southeastern USA
Bruising: No color change was observed.
Fragile stem and cap, that breaks easily when handled.

Unlikely to be Panaeolus unless there is horse shit buried in those wood chips.

The mulch I found these in is used by my county for landscaping, so I'd say that it probably doesn't have shit of any kind in it.

I've found Panaeolus papilionaceus growing from grass. Nowhere near as much as I find them around cow crap though.

The spore prints of both are black.
Thanks for the educated guesses, helps me get to know my local fungi a lil' quicker. Psathyrella sp. seems safe to say.

Doubtful. Probably there was manure there that turned back into dirt over the years.

All your pictures are the same Psathyrella species.

There was a field of cows one field over so perhaps someone walked some crap over on their feet.
