EasyStill - a all in one distilling unit that can sit on your kitchen counter

I found this when looking for a pre-mde distilling column for a pot still, and came across this $200 unit in which it has a whole alcohol still built in to it to make it an easy process to distill spirits, and also it will clean the final product with a built-in activated carbon filtering system so it can produce high quality spirits that compete with store bought brands.
It is $200, but if you look at the price of just a distilling column it's more expensive, and then you still have to get a pot and weld it on the pot.
The steps to use it are as simple as follows: 1. Insert your mash in to the vessel 2. Put collection tank in place 3. Turn on the EasyStill and wait about 3 hours 4. Enjoy home-made spirits that are store-bought quality
What you guys think?

They sell those here as water distillers. If you try and distill mash in that it will foam and come out the nozzle. The column distiller I have for home brewing has ceramic beads in the column to keep the foam under control.
http://www.spiritsandbrewing.co.nz/waa8af.html
It might work if you only fill the tank half way and make some sort of screen a couple of inches above the liquid level to knock the foam down.
Good luck!

On the brewing site I found it on, they clearly mention that the original model that was released was made only for water but they modified the column to make it cooler, and the hot plate to make it the right temperature for distilling alcohol.
Here is an proper description
Quote:
The EasyStillTM is a high quality, stainless steel electric countertop distillation unit with a 4L capacity. It is based on the design of a popular water distillation unit, but has been factory modified for alcohol distillation by changing the heating element, increasing cooling, and omitting the chlorine release valve, plus additional proprietary adaptations. The unit is still capable of distilling water, simply at a slower rate.

Meh... if youve got that kind of money. Just save 70 more and get this bad boy http://www.brewhaus.com/Essential-Extractor-Pro-Series-II-Complete-Distiller-P1015C96.aspx 7.5 gallon tank> 4 liter.
Depends on what your doing i guess....the distiller in the original post would be good for table top fun. But The pro extractor is better if your more serious. If im gonna ferment mash...its got to be at least 5 gallons

I have that still. It works great as long as you aren't looking to produce a large volume of booze. I don't drink much hard liquor and don't have room for a large still, so the one gallon still is big enough for me.

How much distillate do you guys get from a 4l run of a sugar/water mash? Also what % alcohol generally comes out for you guys?

I received my EasyStill today, and just started a 4L run of 16% ABV mash.. The company I ordered it from also sent me a PVC tube with filters, and activated charcoal to filter the alcohol, as the standard filter that comes included is only good enough to purify distilled water, alcohol requires more purification. So it runs through a 20 inch tube filled with activated charcoal. I'm letting the first 20ml run in to a separate jar to get out any impurities such a methanol, then I will switch it to the collection container.
Very professional unit, I'm quite pleased even though it costed $200

That's why I get bums to buy it for me
All you gotta do is buy them a fifth of some liquor or a beer.

Well in the handbook and everywhere on everything included with the EasyStill, it does NOT mention alcohol anywhere, it only talks about distilling water and essential oils. I never mentioned doing anything illegal with it, and if any kind of ethanol were to be produced it would be with a ethanol fuel license.
I really hope the ATF don't come knockin and bust me for doing legal essential oil distillation

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (and Explosives). It's a law enforcement agency made famous by the raid on the Branch Davidians in Waco, TX.
