Some finds from yesterday's foray (ADDED PHOTOS at bottom!)

Took visiting family for a drive up near the Trinity Alps Wilderness in northwestern CA yesterday and decided to have a little impromptu fungal foray at about 3500 feet, on a north facing slope at the bottom of a creek canyon where light snows had just melted, spring seeps were flowing well, and the creeks were roiling. Wet moss covered rocks, wood debris and hillsides under mixed Douglas Fir, pine, alder and willow. Here are some photos of some of the more interesting fungi that were observed. Would appreciate your "yays" or "nays" on my tentative IDs (read "guesswork" ).
Thanks! SC
Creekside habitat with surrounding spring seeps and dense moss covering rocks and woody debris in a thick, wet blanket.
Auriscalpium vulgare (Ear-pick Fungus) on a Douglas Fir cone.
Polyporus elegans growing from moss-covered, decomposing fir wood.
Stropharia ambigua (??) growing next to a boulder in seep-soaked, detritus-filled soil. Cap about 3" in diameter, ivory to light tan in color. Stipe darker tan with scales on lower half, ivory on upper half. Purplish-black attached gills. Sorry - no spore print.
Amanita (species ??) emerging from a 4 inch thick mat of moss on damp detritus-covered soil below mixed Douglas fir and pine.
On the road back, in a compartively dry, warm, sunlit, short-grass and clover meadow... Galerina venenata?? alongside Bovista plumbea puffballs. Caps are 0.5-1" in diameter and smooth, light golden brown all over. Gills were attached. Stems are smooth, without apparent veil remnants. Sorry - no spore print.

I agree mostly, though I am not sure that the 3rd one is S. ambigua... Maybe, but it is rather unadorned. Perhaps another Stropharia species.
And the last one is an Agrocybe, maybe A. pediades.

Thanks, CC! Yeah, the last one was a wild-ass guess. Knowing it was lacking veil remnants, it didn't seem right.
While my info is woefully lacking, any idea on the Amanita? It's one I haven't encountered before. Couldn't believe that virtually only the caps were protruding from the unusually thick moss in that spot!

I nominated the third Auriscalpium pic for pic of the month.
I agree with the Polyporus & Stropharia ID.
Very interesting Amanita! Try to get some more pictures and samples and get them to Rod Tulloss.
Your last mushroom is Agrocybe pediades.

Wow! Thanks for the nomination, Alan. I'm humbly appreciative. Believe it or not, that's the first time I'd seen that li'l fella.
Who is Rod Tulloss and how do I contact him? And what's the best way to preserve the sample for shipment? I'm not even sure they'll be there on Friday, which is the earliest I can get back to that site. As can be seen in the photo, with the broken soggy stipe, those Amanitas were quite soft due to recent snow/moisture. I imagine they won't last long... But I will try.
Thanks for the help, too!

The margin is lacking. It could be S. ambigua.

The margin blew away in the wind. It is S. ambigua.

Sweet pics, thanks for sharing.
Yeah Alan, before I even scrolled down to read your post I had thought about nominating that pic for POTM... ha. Not surprising. Great pics!

ADDITIONAL AMANITA PICS & unidentified extras... [Re: Oreganic]

Squeezed out a couple of hours during the family visit to head back to the above site this morning to take more photos of the above unidentified Amanita sp. Also found a few little extras, that I haven't had time to key out yet. Any added comment on the Amanita, and on the extras, is as always most welcome.
Dorsal view of Amanita cap shows striated edges and "slippery" appearance. The lateral view of the cap shows a few small pieces of white veil remaining on the cap. The rest was probably scraped off by the overlaying moss as the mushroom emerged. The third pic is a close-up of the bulbous stipe base and gill structure.
Unidentified (Mycena) species and moss...
Unidentified cup fungus...
Finally, an unidentified palm-sized mushroom (larger one). Rust brown color and decurrent gills, located in drier, rocky soils under firs.
Thanks fer lookin'!

The one in the moss is a Galerina.
The cup fungus is actually a Birds Nest Fungus... Though identification may be difficult without seeing the peridioles.
The last one might be a Hygrophorus or Gomphidius.

Those pictures aren't bad. Please post all of your pictures of that species on http://mushroomobserver.org so Rod Tulloss can see them.

That one is real interesting and I don't know what it is. Put it on mushroomobserver also.

Thanks, folks!
Will post the Amanita photos on MushroomObserver tomorrow evening, hopefully, Alan. There were only two specimen mushrooms in the entire area - the one I had removed and left there and the one next to it just emerging from the overlaying moss. I removed both today and brought them back. But they're in fairly bad shape, having gone downhill since the first sighting. Very soft. Nearly impossible to handle without breaking.
Would they still be of any use (say for spore analysis)? If so, how should I store them until then?
Thanks.

Will do.
I have a small food dehydrator for shrooms and fruit.
Would that be too aggressive with these?
