How to lower the temperature in the terrarium a few degrees?
    #1224505 - 01/16/03 05:05 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I have some casings in a terrarium right now. Problem is, I live with a bunch of other students, and they keep the heat up. Ideal pinning temps are around 70-75 if my memory serves me correctly...the house is probably around 80ish right now. What would be a good way to lower the temp say 5 degrees? Perhaps an ice cube put on the perlite every day? Any ideas?

V.

If i understand correctly people that cant get optimum fruiting temps should cold shock then place it in the terrium, i could be wrong though.

Turning the heat down isn't an option...two of my roomates are from Singapore and even at 80 they complain it's "freezing"

Putting somthing sold in your fruiting chamber will tend to lower the humidity. Do you have a window or other cold spot? Being in Ontario I know you should be able to find some sold spot in the place. With that sayed, I think they will fruit just fine at 80F. It's just not the optimum temp.

a long time ago I had success by getting a few of those refreezable Ice paks (get whatver type suits your situation) and cycling them by alternating the ones in the freezer with the ones currently in the terrarium after they have thawed as the time required to thaw was much longer than the amount of time to freeze (3-4 cycles per day, more or less depending on the size of your terrarium and the size and # of ice paks). Also the schedule of exchanging the ice paks is perfect for fanning as well (if that is neccessary for you).
