surrender and gratitude

the idea of surrender and gratitude seems to be fairly universal in religion, spirituality. it seems to me that this is because of a few things.
surrender to the will god(s). This imo relieves suffering because there is only "the will of god" or just whats happening. The idea that we are independent from the will of the world creates resistence to what is happening because the belief that it could be different is at play.
gratitude to god(s). These sort of go hand in hand, being grateful for life even when its at its worst relieves suffering because self pity, anger and fear are felt less.
just wanted to point out that the existence a god or not is not why these things make a person feel better. i remember as a child i was a christian and i surrendered my will to jesus and it felt like a weight had been lifted. ive had this many times since from just understanding that the burnden never was on me it was all just happening as a function of nature.

Everyone want's to go back into the womb, to have every need met and be totally cared for and supported. But that's not what life is. It's also about the struggle to survive at the expense of other life.

true,
the point i always try to make is that look at all other animals, out of all of them we are the only ones who think we are exempt from the forces of nature in some way. Why do we believe thought is something other than a function caused by an insanely complex system which "we" do not control. even if we did, who controls the controler? no matter who we think we are, that is directly caused by other things, so there is nothing "you" can do about anything. the body can do things but "you" cant becuase you are just an idea about what is happening. imo

I can agree with that without being in agreement with your OP.

If anything, NOT surrendering to a "higher power" has benefited me immensely. I feel liberated by the recognition of my own limitless power.
