Flowhood help/blower search

Fellow fungophiles, I am building a flowhood.  I got FPs 24x18 HEPA (.8 inch SP).  And I calculated that I need a blower to do 300CFM at 1" SP.  Searching online for the correct blower has been difficult.  Dayton (Grainger) seems to be the biggest manufacturer of shaded pole blowers.  I just talked to their tech support and they don't have any appropriate blowers!  They either can't handle 1" SP at 300CFM or they're way too strong. But alas, its 345$.  I might as well have bought FP's budget flowhood if I go that route.  Anyone know where the appropriate market/manufacturer I'm lookin for is?  Thanks.

You can find used blowers like that in classified ads/flea markets cheap but they may need some heavy cleaning. You could find an inline blower for between $200-300 from an indoor gardening store. I forget the specs on my blower but the price was about $280 and I think it will work with the 2' x 2' hepa I have. Just haven`t got around to putting it all together yet.....

BTW....if you find one that`s in your price range yet it`s too much volume, you can add a dimmer switch for about $15 and slow it down.:wink:

OK, here's an idea, I don't know how well it would work, but since I'm going to be building a flowhood and need a blower I'll try it. 

Consider building an array of 12V computer fans - RTV them side by side into an array (see faked pic). 



Speed control is easy enough with a simple regulator - the current isn't large.  CFM is juicy, and the only real question I have is what sort of SP they'll work at.  I know they'll handle ordinary air filter material so long as you give them a couple inches of straight air path. Price should be pretty good if you buy in bulk - it would take 20 120mm fans to do the job with no fancy ducting, or a lot fewer if you don't mind building a tunnel.  One thing I like about it is the lower profile. :smile:

OTOH my local growstore has squirrel cage fans on the shelf and I'll take another look at those.
