    #12066087 - 02/20/10 03:30 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

im thinking this might be skullcap, but im not sure.. it is just another random weed growing in my backyard ...

there is some catnip though that popped up around the yard out of no where this yezar.. pretty cool

heres a few pics.. they have purple flowers, which led me to believe it might be a kind of skullcap.. any help with an id is appreciated...

Where are you located?

I can't make the picture larger to see detail, though it looks like ground ivy, a common member of the mint family. If it is ground ivy it will have bilabiate flowers (in this case, two parted lower keel petal, two parted upper petal, single petal in between on each side).

If not bilabiate, it may be a geranium, or if you are from somewhere non-temperate, it may be something else.

southern california...

idk what u mean by bilabiate

but its like, 2 leaves at a time, 1 on each side of the stem which makes a half circle each..

and the flowers are just purple.. they look like little guys in hoods with their hands out praying or something..

it does look like ground ivy though... just not the flowers yet.
heres another pic of them in action:

i have a few more if someone can help identify them.. im pretty sure one is a kind of wild lettuce (not virosa.. but eh)

and the other is c atnip fo sho..

maybe you guys can help me be more specific.. here:

lettuce?:

what is hthis, parsley? lol:

interesting weed:

ground lillies or what? look like big clovers:

i think this is another type of lettuce:

and finally what i believe to be catnip, (smells like catnip.. )

I can't tell if that's skullcap as the pics are too poor and the rest of what you have there just look like regular annual weeds, except for the Dandelion which leaves can be eaten and the latex used to get rid of warts.

The "ground lillies" are more than likely a weed in the Geranium genus too.

based on the leaves I doubt they are any type of scutellaria since scullcaps have single pretty straight leaves usually no patterns to them the flowers look very similar though. Look it up on google then search the images.

common weed, nothing to get high from:

common weed, nothing to get from, looks like a wild lettuce seedling but its not:

Looks like someone planted that, so it ma be parsley:

that looks like an garden herb or just another weed

These are one of the most common weeds you find almost everywhere, they can grow very big with super thick stems:

not wild lettuce, but a dandilion

Thats not catnip but just another common weed

Dont attempt to smoke any white residue/latex you may find from your local areas wild plants, you could hurt yourself very badly.

This is wild lettuce:
notice the leaves are round and there is minimal thorns, wild lettuce is easily confused with prickly lettuce, but wild lettuce has more rounded leaves:
Wild Lettuce:

NOT WILD LETTUCE:

The first one is henbit, a wild mint..

Don't see any catnip, looks like that one could be epazote to me, again, hard to see in your pictures.

Don't consume unidentified plants, but enjoy learning to id!
