Orcan Conclusion
    #12033174 - 02/15/10 11:11 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

The Discovery Channel featured a show entirely on killer whales. That had one piece of amazing footage featuring incredible intelligence.

I will submit the puzzle and see if you are as smart as an Orca. Those who have seen the show, please do not answer. :nono:

A pod of six Orcas spot a seal basking on a small ice floe - maybe a 15' * 30' oval. How do the Orcas get at the seal?

Scoped 30-06 with 160 grain hollowpoints. Then they melted the ice by putting it into their drinks. They really were pretty drunk by the time they got to the seal. But they got it.

I guess I would tip it over from below or try to flop on top of it.

B for effort.

Ice floe was too heavy to tip over or to crack in half and the edge was a little to high for an orca to flop on top.

I will give you another try. Naturally, we can all ignore Ice's silliness.

Hint: They all work together.

They surround the floe and wait for the seal to leave?

Not a 30-06? A heavier load? Was it tea? Give me a hint to which part was wrong.

They all circle the ice floe with their dorsal fins poking out of the water until the seal gets scared and jumps off and into the mouth of a hungry orca.

OK, here it is folks. Now this may have been a first time thing, so think of the minds behind this.

The whales all pop up around the flow to look things over. Then all go several hundred yards away and huddle in a discussion (seriously).

Then all six swim at the flow at full speed and cut under at the last minute creating a wave of water which simultaneously tilts the ice floe as water washes over it, sweeping the seal off the other side.

Brilliant! Meal Accomplished.

I bet seals taste good. They have lots of fat so the meat would be tender.

Swami, er OC, has once again demonstrated his prescience. An orca at Sea World in Florida today had enough of being bossed around for years by a mere human 1/40th her size and tossed her trainer around like a rag doll until dead.

The audience was horrified that an animal did not like imprisonment and subjugation.
