I put mine directly in a dehydrator (heat unhooked) and it takes about 24 hours.

placing them in the fridge is not the way to dry them. some people do that to keep them fresh for a little while but it doesn't dry them.

lol. disregard this statement. use your dehydrator with the heat on. it wont effect potency.

What? Can you please explain or elaborate this? What do you mean? To the OP: it happened to me once. All my mushrooms were become completely inactive. Only one way to find out.

and unfortunantely he wont have access to the dehydrator, i thought a fan would work fine. There are plenty of threads on here saying thats all they use

fans do work fine. i use little computer fans. your problem, for whatever reason, was placing them in the refrigerator. from now on place them in front of the fan right after you pick them.

Fastest method is to slice/rip each mushroom into halves long ways. Multiple times for larger mushrooms (ie: 1/4's or 1/8's) then place into a dehydrator on medium/high for about 2-4 hours depending on the humidity and how many are you are drying.
All mine get ground into powder for personal use anyway so I couldn't give two shits about how they look.
In your case, those are probably fine. They do tend to turn dark when drying.

this is possible. they were in a mini fridge, wich tends to freeze EVERYTHING. We did turn the temp all the way down to try and avoid feezing th mushrooms. but now that you mention it, they were a bit hard when they came out of the fridge. but not slimy

sounds to me your mushrooms started to wilt and rotin the frige. the frige had no air circulation and the mushrooms were wet of course. just put some lettice in the frige uncovered in the frige over night you will see what im talking bout. by the time you got them in front of the fan they were rotting faster tan they were drying. since im in no hurry to dry mine i leave them on a plate in open air on a shelf.. it takes 2 days give or take. a fan would works fine to speed the process up. but you didn't have to put them in the frige. that was your problem. people do put them in a frige sometimes but to only keep them fresh when they plan on eating the fresh, not dry. if you ever want to store them for long periods of time you can freeze them, but make sure they are completly dry first or you will see the same thing happen quickly when they thaw. you will have some nasty mushy mushrooms. thats for sure
