Is it expensive to get a brain scan? (for the big C)
    #11887383 - 01/23/10 08:20 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I'm concerned that there is something physically wrong with me...  the left side of my head always seems to feel like it has a bit of pressure on it, for example when i touch it feels stronger then the right side..

second of all i just noticed on the scale i am down 4 pounds  from a few days ago... not sure if it's normal to lose 4 pounds just like that altho my brother claims that your weight can fluctuate 4 pounds daily, sounds like bullshit to me tho..

the most prominent evidence would be that i seem to have gotten physically smaller over these past few months (and more pale and depressed) and im starting to get concerned. i would go for a check up but my doctor's office is closed right now.
Does anyone know if it would be a big deal to scan my brain to see if everything's alright physically?  and what are the most common symptoms of this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance.

You don't mention any of the basic symptoms from a quick search:

Cool down, fix your diet, workout and go to your doc

I would drink plenty of Reishi tea too.

4lbs is normal mate, food and water will cause that kind of fluctuation.
If you're stressed/depressed that can cause weight loss.

That is likely true that I may just be exaggerating it in my head, although for other symptoms my skin has gotten a lot paler and I did have one or two days where I felt nausea, and another one that got me worried is loss of sex drive and almost being sterile  as in i cant keep it up too long but I may just have to change up my diet ... I haven't thrown up since I last had the flu so that is a good sign.    I will also check out Reishi tea!

I mean stress can cause weight loss over a longer period.

I have to eat a lot to keep my weight on, if i get depressed and start losing weight i start to look a bit pale and thin.
I've been there before with season affective disorder, winter's always a struggle.

If you're not feeling great anyway, and the weight starts dropping off you start noticing little things about yourself, then you're linking those up to illness scenarios which causes more stress and it self perpetuates.

Best you can do is to get checked, if only for piece of mind.

You haven't really listed any symptoms that couldn't be caused by a depression/winter blues type thing, and nothing that sets alarm bells off with me suggesting something serious is going on.

I'm no doc tho, please do get checked.

Good luck,,.

what drugs do you use?

pressure in your head... i get that all the time.  eat less sugar, it clogs your sinuses and causes pressure to build up.  it also kills your appetite, which could be why your looking paler.  drink less water too.  only drink when your thirsty.

and if you cant breathe thru your nose, then consider getting some Super Nasya oil from www.ayurveda.com , or snorting a very small amount of calamus powder (less than a pinch, it will burn, but dont worry thats supposed to happen).  that always clears my sinuses and makes the pressure go away.  the added breath also gives u a little oxygen high that calms u down and relaxes ur muscles, which will be good for your health.  its always good to be able to breathe.  i bet if you eat one meal of hot curry it will fix u right up

if one side has more pressure, likely one side of your nose is clogged and the other open, right?

I am a Cannabis user- Bong Hits.  I eat my fair share of sugar too (esp. when high) so I'm gonna cut that out of my diet!

several foods increase congestion, like eggs, cheese, wheat, oats, sugar, rice, but i read in The Science of Self Healing a good book by Vasant Lad, he says you can use certain spices with those foods to counteract the mucous quality.  i could scan it for you, i'm sure hewouldnt mind.

A doctor will refer you for a CT scan if they deem it necessary. Go see a doctor if you think you need it. Otherwise, just live healthy and try to do what you can to alleviate stress. Cancer sucks but it's not the most common thing that afflicts people

that would be great if you could hook that up...  i probably eat cheese about every other day with eggs or fish but that's good to know.  I'm 'bout to eat some chinese with garlic sauce , wonder if that has counteractive effect. :greenshroom:

hmm, could be, garlic is heating.  i'll scan it now.

well, i was gonna scan it but you really have to read the book (its not too long) to safely use the tips.  i couldn't show you the part im talking about, in good conscience, without explaining a whole shitload of other stuff that you need to know, and its easier to read the book.  its just 150 pages.

yogabunny is a user on the shroomery whose studied ayurveda in depth, i think shes certified.  you could ask her

As somebody said, you should quit smoking pot, exercise more, eat better, etc.  Sounds like you just need to get out more and find better ways of dealing with your stress.  A CAT scan probably won't find out anything conclusive about what's "wrong with your head" unless you've had a brain injury.

There are many other reasons for pressure of the head/brain.. don't get caught up and anxious about having cancer.

Start being a bit more conscious about when and what you eat, lay off the pot, get some exercise, try to relax a bit, and go see your doctor.
..if all else fails or the doctor suggests it, go get a CT.

Is the pressure on either side of your head, the back, the front, or what?

Do you have sinus problems at all? Do you smoke? The pain caused by sinusitis may radiate and appear to be located at the spots you indicate.

That said, lay off the drugs and take a close look at your diet. The former will rid you of the anxiety and the weight loss, while the latter will help supplementing any essential nutrients you may have been lacking for a while. Make sure to eat lots of fresh vegetables, take it easy on the saturated fatty acids and refined sugars and try to achieve a healthy balance in your diet (too much of anything can't be good; a little of everything is probably ok).

Reduce the smoking drastically and see if that makes a difference. It sounds to me like you could have some sinus problems without being aware of it.

Doesn't sound like the symptoms are there unless he's feeling for them.

if one of your nostrils is plugged, close the open one and try and breathe gently and see if that opens up your sinus.  whenever i have a headache i do this and it usually goes away.
