it would work, i think it would be a little over kill though. maybe try a jug of water with a fish tank bubbler if that dont work spend the money on a humidifier

You can get a small 35$ humidifyer from home depot that actually fits in most rubbermaid containers...My friend puts his in a smaller plastic bucket with a hole in the lid to let out the mist but no machine or cord is axposed to the same air as cakes...

If a cool mist humidifier is the kind that wicks up water through a sponge type thing then it will be fine, although you may have toconnect it to a timer to regulate the humidity.

yeah, perlite has never really been too messy for me. just sits on the bottom.
