Is this good for a drying chamber??
    #1162053 - 12/22/02 09:53 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

I dont have wire mesh screen cause I couldnt find it. But I got dessicant. I want to use two plastic containers, one is a pint, one is a quart. The ones you get when you order soup at chineese places. I want to cut a inch or so into the top of the pint one so it rests inside the quart one without sliding to the bottom, and poking many small holes in the bottom of it. This will hold the mushrooms. The dessicant, I'm not sure, but I guess I'll try to make a little stand with foil to hold that up. I hope the foil is strong enough, I dont really have anything else I can use. What do ya think? And a question, does the dessicant get wet? Is it supposed to? How do I tell to replace the dessicant, which is Damp-Rid by the way? Alright, wish I had a camera, but I'm gonna get to it already.

Peace Out!

It sounds like it will work. Try it out man. And, about dessiccant, you will notice a type of pink goo when it begins to go bad....

Thankyou it seems to be going together well. Do you know where I can find wire mesh? Asked around window section in home depot and could only find the plastic kind. I still have to check the hardware store tomorrow though.

Peace!

Go to a fabric store. They have all kinds of different meshy material that should work, but I'm a big fan of the dehydrator.....

I got Wire mesh at Low's Hardware store. In the gardening section. They have about 15 different kinds. Low's should be nation wide in the USA.

you don't need wire mesh at all!  and damprid has been a very fast and excellent drier in my experience.

Just get an airtight container like a rubbermaid thing or something.  Then, take a plastic cup and cut it into "rings," so you have like 5-6 rings of plastic that are about a half inch deep.  Put the dessicant at the bottom of the container, and put the rings over it.. then just put a paper towel or two on top of the plastic rings, and put your shrooms on the towel.  This keeps the shrooms very close to the dessicant, but not touching it.  The absorption happens right through the paper towel.  no need to buy mesh,  :cool:it works!

Any hardware store should be able to sell you a piece of window screen (wire mesh). There is plenty room here for improvising too..Use a piece of paper towel for example.
------oops! I just noticed the previous poster posted that!
