LIDS TO TIGHT?
    #1157775 - 12/20/02 09:55 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

I think i may have fucked up, not completley though. OK i forgot to loosen the lids of my brf\verm substrate and the PF Tek says to loosen them so the steam can penetrate them "quickly".  If my lids were not so loose does that mean that no or little steam penetrated the jars?  I can see if i only sterilized them for 20 minutes or so but i took a whole to sterilize them.  Has anyone done the same as me and had good results?  Oh yeah, i just got my Peurto Rican and Creeper syringes from thelittleguy.com today , i guess ill go dust off the microscope, heh

You should be fine. The tightness of the lid does not make that large of a difference. How long did you sterilize for?

Yea, your jars should be fine.  Keep an eye on them.  Your temps also sound fine.  I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to casings though.......help him out Ski  :smirk:

If you added enough water while making the substrate for the cakes you should be fine. I put 2 layers of tin foil over then put the lid on, then steralized and my jars are almost 100 % colonized. Just make sure the substrate isnt packed in too tight.

Im accualy doing a test to see which grows best: jars with the PF Tek Tamp down Tek is applied or jars filled 3/4 of an inch from the top with substrate and then toped with verm. ill post the results later on. Any predictions? Im guessing that the jars that were not tamped down do better due to more air pockets for the mycelial network to grab hold of.

That would be my bet. If it's loose it will encourage faster growth.

I leave the lids on tight and keep them taped up in the pc and after I inject and these are my results.
