Some are, others are toxic.

Since yours is a blue stainer you'll need to ID it to species to find out if its toxic.

Ah, ok.  Yeah, it looks like a Boletellus obscurecoccineus but those aren't even supposed to grow in America, according to wikipedia.  Obviously I take wiki info with a grain of salt... And I definitely won't eat it before I know for sure.

They were part of a pretty big patch that I was when I was walking my dog, but I didn't have a camera.  If they're good to eat, I'll try em out.

it resembles about 5 strains that i have seen, an expert would need to see the pore size and structure along with more detailed pics of cap and stripe.

Better pictures are needed, like close up macro photos of the cap, stipe, pores, and a cross section.

My camera is having trouble getting pictures from any closer.  I need a new one badly..

I think I'll just pass on eating them.

I had just never seen a mushroom with honeycomb-like gills.  Was curious.

I'll try to get some better pictures but I can't promise anything.  If I can't, I'll just pass on them.

Anyway, thanks so much for all the help!

You will see about a million more of them if you keep mushroom hunting.
