    #11514571 - 11/23/09 08:48 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Ok so I was in Petco today. Because I had to get my dogs something... Im undecided if Poo or Coir would be most practical in my situation, So Im looking around and i see this stuff called, Zilla Ground English Walnut Shells, and I ask my self would this work? I really dont see why this would not be a suitable Bulk Substrate, prepared with similar additives as one would with Coir......Anyone know anything on this Ground Walnut Shells???

Almost no nutes to speak of.  It's used as bedding for dry climate lizards because they tend to scoop up substrate when they eat, and it's easier to digest than sand.

OH ok so its no good then. I didnt even get a look at the price to see if it was cheaper then coir. But I figured it would be similar , But I guess not. Coir it is... Was gonna do the Poo but I just think Coir is easier, cleaner, easier to store. Plus from what if read  pretty equally matched in every way with the shitskys so....

Field aged manure does not smell and will either be free if you collect it yourself or only cost a few bucks for 50+ lbs.

I have about 150 lbs stashed in breathable mesh bags under a tarp in a dirt basement somewhere for when I need it.
