Spiritual books..
    #11511613 - 11/23/09 02:37 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

What are some of your favourite spiritual books?

..I'm looking for just about any interesting text.  What are some good books:

-that have helped you in your spiritual journey,
-that relate to your beliefs of spirituals traditions and the soul,
-of the mind, consciousness, and the psyche, or
-on metaphysics?

I would recommend reading a book by someone who you consider to be spiritually awake

I would go with reliability, so the words of Sages that i respect

Buddha - Pali Canon: (this website is tremendous)
http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/index.html

Lao Tzu - Tao Te Ching

Ramana Maharshi - Any book that has his direct teaching statements

I appreciate the replies!
..I'll check them all out when I get a chance.

Honestly, I haven't really looked or found anyone I feel to be spiritually awake.  I plan on doing so.

I used to study Buddhist texts translated into English text and could never really grasp the message. I think that a lot gets lost in translation. After reading A New Earth it kind of brought it all together for me.

I got about 55 minutes in before I had to close out and come home.  It was a bit slow moving, but I really enjoyed it.

I've had previous thoughts/feelings of how the outside world distorts our perception of the real world.. and he did a great job of putting this into words and expanding it for me.
I've got mixed feelings on his perspective of 'aloneness'.  I've been trying to reach a similar state for a while..  living in the now, and trying to rid myself of those distortions.  But, he lost me a bit in his truth talk.  I don't get what he believes defines anything as a truth/falsity.. he basically goes on to say that ego isn't truth, I think.

I've found some text and other videos by him; I've enjoyed them all thus far!

Thanks a bunch, steveareno.
