RUBBERMAID TERRIUM vs 20 GAL AQUARIUM?

Im gonna go by a 4 story metal shelf tonight from home depot and i dont know what type of terrium i should buy to put on them. Im thinking the aquarium would be more air tight lessing contam rates and providing more humidity, but the rubbermaids provide more space cheaper and you can modify it. Which one OR size of your choise of terrium should i choose????? (im gonna be doing casings and im gonna let some grow off the cakes)

there's not a right answer per se so I'll give you personal opinion. Rubbermaids are cheap, easy to alter, and opaque. You can't say any of that for an equivalent sized aquarium. as for airtightness, a little creativity with silicone sealant will make a rubbermaid as airtight as you will ever need. go to big lots or dollar general and you can get all sizes of rubbermaids for ~$3 a piece (for ones that fit on shelves). Another plus, rubbermaids are available just about anywhere.

A friend of mine uses rubemaid as his terrarium and incubator. His system is this - 2 "large" tubs(same size) - one inside another - the bottom tub has 2" of water and a fishtank heater mounted to a metal plate on the bottom, the second tub sits in this warm water bath the top tub has a plexiglas window cut in the top center for light and to check on the babies

I've never used rubbermaids, or silicone. I guess i would use it if I did casings, otherwise it'd be to much work

why are you assuming you need a air tight situation... rubbermaid with perlite is fine.. no silicone.. remember you have to fan 3 times daily if you plan to grow..

A terrarium definately doesnt have to be airtight, I can say this for sure. As long as the terrarium is in a somewhat clean environment too. I'm sure airtight is better for humidity, and probably better overall, but it works if you're lazy too!

I concur, and I also agree that terrariums don't need to be airtight.

RUBBERMAID! nice and large, easy to modify, also easier to conceal...... not that you'd have too!
