More Tree Mushrooms in Shenandoah Valley Virginia

Habitat:
These we found growing in small clumps on a standing dead 'tree of paradise'

Gills:
white, attached to stem.

Stem:
short, stubby, white, solid and thick

Cap:
an inch was the widest we found, but the cap is barely differentiated from the stem, only a narrow rim of gills around the edge. The cap is tan/pale brown color, smooth and roundish

Spore print color:
none yet....

Bruising:
slightly darker brown

Other information:
earthy scent, firm body, obviously juveniles at this stage. We found groups that were larger, maybe 2 inch caps, but they were too dessicated ti be helpful in identifying

Looks like you found a patch of baby oysters (Pleurotus ostreatus). But it's tough to be certain when they are that young.

They look just like oysters to me. Nice find. I'm a nub though, so don't eat them based on my words.

well, that makes perfect sense -- we found some full grown oysters in the same area, just didnt connect the dots :smile:
