General Location of Habitat: Western Oregon, Central Willamette Valley

Habitat: Near a man-made clearing deep within a conifer forest.
Local: In-between gravel rocks, old pine cones, tiny green clovers, and old twigs. This site was right near a dead conifer trunk,
looked pretty old. (Photo #1)

Cap: Carmel Brown color. Color also similar to hardwoods, like Brazilian cherry. Smooth. Tiny indention in the center of the cap.
On edges of cap, its translucent so that the gills are visible. (Photo #1 & 2)

Gills:  Same color as cap, just light. Crowded. Attached to stem. Has a "long-gill-then-short-gill" pattern going around cap. (Photo #)

Stem: Grayish-white, solid, thick and fibrous when broken. (Photo #2, 3, & 4)

Bruising: Subtle but there. Stem turned grayish-blue from grayish-white after handling (Photo #3). Most apparent bruising is on mycelium on bottom of mushroom (See "Additional Details" & Photo #4).

Spore print color: Cinnamon-brown.
Photo #5: Took overnight to print.

Additional Details: There was some mycelium attached to the base of the shroom, and it bruised dark grey-blue from its original white (Photo #4). Question: Does the mycelium of non-active mushrooms ever turn blue?

Photos...
Photo #1: Natural habitat. 3 mushrooms of same species.

Photo #2: After picking. Change of color in stem.

Photo #3: Close-Up of Gills.

Photo #4: Close-Up of grayish-bluing Mycelium.

Galerina marginata.  Deadly.

Its not bluing.  You just made that up because you are trying to kill yourself.

Posting it here was good though.

it's funny how people will imagine bluing out of hope. I'm no expert but that looks nothing like an azurescen.

Wow, that was fast!

That was pretty funny about the "you're trying to kill yourself" bit, but suicide is never funny (unless its auto-erotic asphyxiation gone horribly wrong).

Anyway, so what gave away that it wasn't a Ps. azure? Was it the cap with the tiny indention, because I noticed real P. azures have a nipple-like top. Or was it the grey "bruising" on the stem/mycelium? Cap color maybe?

Just curious what the process was for deduction you guys used...

Thanks for the ID!

Could I die just from touching this deadly Galeria marginata?

And also hoping that you would read it before you ate them.  : )

None of those things.

Its the gill color (rusty brown gills are the most important warning sign to notice), stem color (greenish brown), presence of an annulus (you can barely see it but its clearly there in two of the pictures).  Good thing the pictures are so clear.  The annulus has rusty brown spores on it.  The cap color is too cinnamon, and the shape is all wrong for Psilocybe unless this was P. cyanofriscosa.

All mushrooms scream out their identities when you look at them, but you need to pay close attention to certain features to understand the language they speak.

Look at pictures of azures. do they look like that?

Yes azures have nipples. Their stems are white. Cap shape is different.

They bruise like crazy. Once you find one, you'll have no doubt about it. You won't have to peer at a mushroom for hours hoping that what you see is a little bluing - it's obvious. Same with cyanescens.

You have good eyes - i was about to ask "where is the veil"? but then looked them up and saw that it can be invisible/barely visible.

Photos of spore print has been added to original post.

You were right Alan R., the spore print was a cinnamon-brown color. I'm amazed you saw that in 2 of my photos, near the middle of the stem. Good eyes! I'm glad we got wild mushroom experts like you to prevent me from accidentally killing myself.
