ive read a few posts in which people recommend leaving jar lids loose while colonizing to provide the mycelia w/ fresh air. does this help stunted/slow jars colonize faster? thanks

Yes, it can often aid in stalled growth, however, if you're not careful, you will open yourself up for contams. You might also look in to filter disks or polyfill fiber to allow air exchange while protecting from contaminates.

when is a jar not a jar? when its ajar!
god that was stupid

well the entire principle behind it is that coarse verm holds more water and thus it needs more air exhcange (looser lid) to rid itself of the excess moisture. the more fine it is the less water it holds and the tighter the lid needs to be. you need to experiment with your verm/jars before u can determine which is best for you.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.
