Do mushrooms have companion plants?
    #11350871 - 10/30/09 09:59 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, I'm gonna try to do an outdoor patch this year, first time, and I was wondering, what other plants I could grow with it, if any? :3 Thanks !

Dead ones.

Mushrooms are primarily decomposers.

yes they do in many cases, but cubes seem to do fine without companions.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Many mushrooms are hunted every year by gatherers who enjoy eating them. There are even mushroom clubs that you can join who take seasonal forays into the woods at specific times of the year, depending on which mushrooms are growing at the time.

An easier way to find the mushrooms is by looking for trees that are the natural habitat for the species sought, (trees are much larger and easier to find than a tiny little mushroom).

A couple of examples are: the White Matsutake-under conifers, Skull-shaped Puffball-under Oak trees, Veiled Oyster-deciduous trees, hickory, maple and alder.

However, as the previous posters noted, Psilocybe Cubensis loves manure and decomposing hardwoods.

If you wanted to make a nice home for them outside, I would recommend mulching some manure and wood chips of various size into a small plot. I would also cover the whole thing with cardboard that is kept wet, or watered once a day. :2cents:

:goodluck:
